The Big Band with the Big Twist

An exciting jazz project based out of the University of Cambridge
The premise is simple: Every gig, we have a completely random band pulled from our auditioned pool of Cambridge's top jazz talent, along with a brand new themed setlist.
The entire setlist is learned, rehearsed and performed on the same day. Come along to watch or sign up to play for a literal once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Our Events

The real fun of Big Band Roulette, is the incredible variety of events we host or are invited to play at. Ever gig we put on has a brand new set list, especially designed to suit the occasion.

01. Sit-Down Concerts
Twice per term, Big Band Roulette brings together a selection of the top jazz talent in Cambridge to put on our showcase concerts. But there's a twist...our musicians only have 24 hours to prepare the entire concert after seeing the music for the first time!
02. Casual Big Band Events
On top of our formal concerts, we love to put on more casual big band gigs including social dances, audience sing-alongs, recitals, and music for college formals/bops. These are rehearsed weeks in advanced so are more welcoming for newer members of the band.
03. Small Band Gigs
Appreciating that not every stage is capable of hosting our full band, we also put on small jazz combo gigs once or twice per term, perfect for college bops, jam nights, and more intimate events.

Get Involved

We are always looking for new people to take part in Big Band Roulette! We audition new members to make sure our gigs are at the right difficulty level for the band members, but we welcome musicians of all abilities.

Instrumentalists

Come along to a relaxed 30-minute audition at any point throughout the year. We give you 15 minutes to look through a small extract of music with a difficulty level of your choosing, before having a listen to you play.

Vocalists

Auditioning is a simple as sending us in a quick tape of you singing along to a backing track of one of the songs in our repertoire. You can send this over at any time throughout the year!

Tech & Arrangers

If you are interested in helping out BBR by either running the sound tech at our gigs or writing arrangements for us, there is no need to audition. Just drop us an email using the contact form below!
